“Our Lady of Tenderness”

Resting before Mary and the Christ Child, we are allowed to partake in the closeness they have for each other. At the Annunciation, Mary began pondering what had taken place at that moment. After Jesus' birth, she began to experience face-to-face her son and Lord. The tenderness they share is expressed in their peaceful silence.

Notice how, slowly, with one hand Mary embraces her Son, and with the other hand she gestures toward Him. He belongs to all who receive him. Jesus caresses his mother with one hand. He gives a blessing to the world with the other. The gentle touch of their faces – joined together in one love.

"MP & OV" – Theotokos – Mother of God – is clothed in a blue undergarment signifying her humanity, a royal purple veil and outer garment signifying her being Mother of God.

The three stars (one covered by Jesus) signify her being a virgin before, during, and after the birth of Jesus.
